  4. Catalog Description:
    This course focuses on the curriculum and instructional planning, technology in the classroom, and student assessment. Candidates will demonstrate the ability to develop standards-based instruction that reflects critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and effective communication. They will show the ability to plan challenging and culturally relevant curriculum to meet their student’s needs. They will use appropriate resources critical to the instruction and be Candidates will be aware of personal and institutional bias to increase teaching effectiveness, and use differentiated instruction whenever needed. They will be able to use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure English language learners understand what is being taught, and adjust instruction based on student assessment. Candidates will show the ability to deliver appropriate instructional goals and objectives and use appropriate strategies to achieve this. They will encourage students’ success by offering a variety of options to demonstrate the learning outcomes, including discussion groups and study circles. They will promote a positive student attitude and help facilitate the development of self-directed learning. Candidates will ensure that assessments are aligned to instruction, and check student’s prior knowledge to gauge where their learning sequence should begin. They will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of their instruction and adjust as necessary. Candidates will show how to monitor student progress through formal and informal assessment and keep records of their student’s achievement.
